"Obstacles in Life"

You know, it kinda sucks when people keep thinking that we should be “perfect” and good role models with good character just because we’re Christians. Just like what was mentioned in a book called ‘Today God Is First’ (Thanks again for buying my sister that book Barry:)), “Being a Christian does not mean we are perfect. We are just forgiven.” But of course, that does not mean that you can continue to sin and just say ‘oh, God forgives me’. After all, just like what the pastor mentioned on Sunday’s sermon, holiness leads to happiness. With less sin, we lead happier lives as we have more self-respect and respect from others.

Another thing that I wanna share is that “God plans every obstacle in our lives for everything good”. Just like the story of how Saul became king of Israel before King David… God sent the donkeys away so that Saul will go looking for them and meet Samuel so that Samuel can appoint him as king of Israel. If you didn’t know, Samuel is the prophet who could converse with God. So instead of complaining or swearing, give thanks to the Lord for complications that you face as every obstacle lead you to everything good.

I always wonder if I the obstacle in my life now mean that I should give up bowling, as if that is God’s purpose for me. Now I’ve been facing MANY obstacles in bowling this year. Instead of my regular average of 190 to 200, I have been hitting averages of 140 to 170. My scores were not consistent. The last time I had those averages was when I was in primary 6 and secondary 1 in CHIJ Toa Payoh. That was back in 2002 and 2003. And now, my thumb hurts to the core due to the removal of my dead skin after blood and water leaking out of it. However, just thinking about all the time, money, pain, blood and skin that I’ve sacrificed and lost to bowling, I can’t bear to let go of the sport. But just like how there was a purpose in the loss of Saul’s donkeys, there must be a purpose behind setback in my performance. I might have to lose something for the gain of something else better…
