"Gaining wisdom through humility"
Proverbs 11:2, “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.”
Proverbs 16:18, “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”
According to the new study Bible I got from friends for my 20th birthday yesterday, “proud people take little account of their weaknesses and do not anticipate stumbling blocks. They think they are above frailties of common people. In this state of mind they are easily tripped up. Ironically, proud people seldom realize that pride is their problem, although everyone around them is well aware of it.”
As ya’ll know, being haughty is being snobbish. Being proud causes you to stumble in a way that you desire to sin more. According to C.S Lewis, Pride is in competition with everyone else’s pride. You just want to be better than anyone else, and you just want to show off. Pride gets no pleasure out of having something, but only having more of it than the next man. The pleasure of being above the rest makes you proud. This is the WRONG kind of pride that you should have. If you take pleasure in being praised, it is fine because the pleasure lies NOT in what you are but that you have pleased someone else.
Socrates, a Greek philosopher in 469BC to 399BC, was deemed as the wisest by the oracle of Delphi. However, Socrates believed that he possessed no wisdom whatsoever. He then went on to pose a riddle to men who were considered to be wise, for example, the poets, statesmen, and artisans. Then Socrates came to a conclusion. While each of them thought himself to be the wisest, he actually knew very little and hence, was not very wise at all. Socrates on the other hand, was really the wisest one since he was aware of his own ignorance.
Well, it is indeed true that, when pride comes, then comes disgrace. But with humility comes widom. So, do YOU think you are wise? Do you think you’re humble? Ask God to search your hearts, as a friend to check your pride.

2 Corinthians 12:9-10, "'My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore, I will boast all the more about my weakness, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong."
Phillipians 4:6-7, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
